Week 2014-45
This gem of a model by Larry Hart has many interesting elements, and moreover it is not difficult to fold. It is an old model I learned by Larry at a British Origami convention 3-4 years ago, but it is not so wellknown by the public.
The folding sequence has a series of steps where parts of the model flips around almost automatically, without making new folds. Only the configuration of the existing folds are flicked around.
One step before the end result, we have a 3-sided wind turbine. Blow, and it rotates quickly.
The final model reveals itself only in the last moment. Push in top and bottom, and it pops into shape as a hexahedron.
In the right paper it looks like a juvel. And the model is truly a real gem. On the origami mailing list people discuss what the heart of origami is and if it exists at all, but if you can, this model is a candidate.
