Anecdote from the province
The art of origami also arrived to Denmark, slightly delayed, in the early sixties. My parents wanted to try something else than white A4 paper, and thus went to the nearest town, the then quite sleepy and conservative Ringsted.
Inside the bookshop they ask the young lady: "Do you have origami paper, please?" She blushes, stutters, and disappears in the back of the shop.
A bit later the owner himself enters and asked while looking sternly at them over his glasses: "What were You asking for?"
My dad: "Origami paper"
The owner: "I suggest that you rather try at the pharmacy. We do not sell this kind of stuff here!"
My parents exited the store while trying not to laugh. They never learned what exactly the young lady and the bookseller were thinking origami paper was meant for.
